Dear Artist,

Welcome to GHOSTS, I am Extremo your host and curator for the exhibit. GHOSTS is open to all artists local and abroad. Submissions are limited to one piece of art per artist, unless specific prior arrangements have been made. I am looking for painting, sculpture, photography, digital, assemblage art, cloth & craftwork, etchings, giclees and other forms of print. The exhibit space is fairly large therefore size is not a major factor, although keep in mind some large artwork may not be accepted depending on the number of artists participating and the space available.

The theme is obvious, ghosts. I don't want to infringe on any of the artists creativity but I am asking you to make a note of a few parameters. Here are some adjectives that will describe what I am looking for to achieve with GHOSTS, moody, dark, melancholy, mysterious, atmospheric, archaic, creepy, eerie, strange and of course ghostly. I want to steer away from colorful cartoony type stuff, no Caspers. I also don't want any gore or typical Halloweeny type things like vampires, frankensteins, etc. Many of you that know me and have seen my artwork are aware these are the very styles and themes I love to work with, but for this exhibit I am shooting for a specific feel that fits a different vision.

If you live in Portland you will need to drop off your artwork on or before Sept. 1st 2007. If you are shipping your art from out of state or out of the country it also needs to arrive no later than Sept 1st. If it arrives after Sept 1st it will not be accepted in the GHOSTS exhibit. Also if you will be shipping your art it's important you enclose a check for return shipping costs in the case that the art does not sell. If it does sell the check will either be destroyed or returned to the artist along with his/her commission payment of 80% of the retail asking price of the artwork sold. All commission checks may take up to 2-3 weeks to receive.

there will be an artist's reception opening night at 7pm Sat. Sept. 15th After opening night GHOSTS will be open to the general public through Halloween night Oct. 31st, at which time we will also be having a closing night party, costumed of course. The location is a brand new establishment located in Southeast Portland OR. The name is Joe Buddy's Bohemian Coffee Shop. Located in the building is a great gallery space that was specifically designed for art exhibits. There is plenty of room both vertically and horizontally, and very good lighting. Mike the owner and operator of Joe Buddy's envisions a gallery space available for both formal curated exhibits and also the ongoing display of artwork by both local and out of state artists.
